House Bill 314 – Revising Terms in the Idaho Code

On January 13th, 2020, Representative Melissa Wintrow (D – Boise) introduced House Bill 314 (H0314), which was then referred to the House Health and Welfare Committee.

The purpose of this bill is to change specific terms throughout Idaho Code, to more modern and respectful terms as deemed necessary. This bill would remove terms such as, “hearing-impaired”, and “hearing-impairment” from the Idaho Code and would replace them with more correct terminology such as, “deaf or hard of hearing”, or “hearing loss.” According to the bill’s Statement of Purpose, such terminology is important, as it will reflect on society’s attitude towards the deaf and hard of hearing community.
